A Prayer for Easing

God of Comfort, Peace and Justice, you are a God of Ease and not of Control.

As lockdown restrictions lift in the UK, help us to be sensible and also to be gracious.

As we mix more in shops, on public transport, in our homes or gardens, please teach us how to keep safe in our bodies and in our minds.

Some of us are ready to mix, others prefer to stay at home.
Some of us have choices, others don’t.

When we get ready to criticise others’ behaviour, give us your grace.
When others criticise, give us the steadfastness to stick to what is safe for us.
When we are afraid, give us the courage to speak up.
When we disagree, give us your compassion.
When we are frustrated, give us your patience.
When we need to make decisions, give us your discernment and peace.

God of community, you are a God who brings people together.
Protect our families, friendship groups and neighbourhoods as we make difficult and different decisions. Fill us with good sense, sympathy and grace.

May the communities that have been strengthened by this situation stand up to the next phase.

May we guard the cooperation, protection, respect and love that have grown this year.

God of Comfort, Peace and Justice, you are a God of Ease and not of Control.

Amen.
